“And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the Lord?”

Main Point: Man tries to merit favor with God his own way.

In this passage, great strong men of renown in Israel come to Moses. They say that the whole nation is holy and Moses and Aaron have no right to act any better than the rest of them and that God. These men were tight in one sense but so wrong in another. Moses and Aaron weren’t any better or less sinners than the rest of the people, but they were chosen by God for a purpose. The people thought their way was better, made more sense, their people were stronger, more popular, etc. However, God’s ways are God’s ways. Man cannot make their own was to operate in God’s kingdom.

I need to realize this. My ways are not God’s ways. I cannot change God to what I prefer and understand. Salvation is not through my efforts or ideas and words. Salvation is only by faith in Jesus Christ, even if I think I’m more qualified, smart, popular, etc. God’s ways are God’s way. I, as a man, cannot change that.
The Gospel is that Jesus is the way to salvation. People attempt to find their own way. Good works, alms, prayers, etc. are some ways man tries to do things his way, but God does not work that way. He has chosen a way and that’s the way it is.
