Main point: God’s judgement of sin is real. This chapter is about Judah being taken over, God had declared a judgement on Judah because of their sin and no amount of good could take it away. Here we see it happen. They are made desolate by the king of Babylon. They are made captives, their cities burned, slaves and prisoners to Babylon, Judah is gone.

I need to remember this the judgement of God is real. God judges sin, He doesn’t just over look it and pretend like it’s not a big deal. For sinners, their judgment will be worse than burned cities, their soul will burn for eternity. It will be worse than slaves or prisoners, they will be imprisoned in hell forever. God’s judgement is real and it is coming. The only reason that I will not experience the judgement of my sin is only because Jesus took the judgement for my sin on the cross! God’s judgment of my sin is very real, but it was already taken care of on the cross.

This shows the gospel in pointing to the fact that we deserve the wrath of God because of our sin, but Jesus took that for us so we wouldn’t have to.
